We are a free, voluntary organisation committed to a policy of confidentiality with our clients.

We deal with debt, advise clients who approach the Service for help on a one to one basis, assist people to become independent and manage their own monies, with on going support where required. We help clients to contact their creditors and re-arrange payments to reduce the burden of debt.

It is the policy of The Christchurch Budget Service Inc. to conduct its business affairs in compliance with the principles of the Privacy Act 1993 designed to protect the privacy rights of our individual clients.

Every volunteer and employee of the Service must ensure that the information collected as part of our Service in providing family budgeting skills to those who seek our assistance or are referred to us from other agencies is collected in such a manner that meets the requirement of the Act.

Further, that such information once collected is used only for the lawful purposes of the Service. That such information is retained for only as long as it is required for the purpose of assisting with budgeting.

While the information is retained it is protected from unauthorised access from both external and internal sources.

Access to client personal information or documentation held by the service is restricted for office staff, officers of the Service and the Budget Adviser dealing with the client.

That no information given by clients of the Service to volunteers or staff will be disclosed without the authority of the individual client.

If any client has a problem with an adviser they can contact the Co-ordinator to discuss this.
